Class Overview: Warm-up and Body Preparation: Each class kicks off with an energetic warm-up to get the body moving and ready for cartwheel practice. Stretching exercises focus on increasing flexibility in the shoulders, wrists, hips, and hamstrings, crucial for performing cartwheels safely and effectively. Cartwheel Fundamentals: Our experienced coaches break down the cartwheel into step-by-step progressions suitable for children of all ages and abilities. Beginners learn proper hand and foot placement, body positioning, and the basic mechanics of the cartwheel. Intermediate and advanced students focus on refining their technique, mastering straight-legged cartwheels, and exploring variations such as one-handed cartwheels and aerial cartwheels. Strength and Conditioning: Cartwheels require core strength, upper body strength, and leg strength. Our classes include exercises and drills specifically designed to develop these muscle groups. Children participate in age-appropriate strengthening activities such as push-ups, planks, leg lifts, and squats to improve their cartwheel performance. Coordination and Balance Challenges: Cartwheels not only test strength but also coordination and balance. We incorporate fun challenges and activities to enhance these skills. Activities may include cartwheel relays, cartwheel obstacle courses, partner cartwheel drills, and balance beam exercises. Flexibility Training: Flexibility is essential for performing smooth and graceful cartwheels while reducing the risk of injury. Stretching exercises targeting key muscle groups are integrated into each class. Children learn safe stretching techniques and develop flexibility gradually over time.
