Instructor: Apryle Draper Class: Handstands Skills Date: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: February 18th, 19th, 20th Time: 9:30 - 10:00am Age: Grades 3rd - 8th Price: $45 Welcome to Handstand Skills, where children from 3rd through 8th grade embark on an exciting journey to master the art of handstands while developing strength, balance, and confidence. Our program is designed to cater to varying skill levels, from beginners to aspiring gymnasts, and provides a supportive environment for children to explore and conquer the challenges of handstanding. Class Overview: Warm-up and Body Awareness: Each class begins with a dynamic warm-up to prepare the body for the challenges ahead. Children engage in activities that promote body awareness, proprioception, and alignment, laying the foundation for successful handstands. Handstand Progressions: Our experienced coaches break down the handstand into manageable progressions suitable for children of all ages and abilities. Beginners learn proper hand placement, body positioning, and balance techniques against a wall or with the assistance of a spotter. Intermediate and advanced students focus on refining their handstand form, mastering freestanding handstands, and exploring variations such as straddle handstands and handstand walks. Strength and Conditioning: Handstands require significant upper body, core, and shoulder strength. Our classes include exercises and drills specifically designed to develop these muscles. Children participate in age-appropriate strength-building activities such as push-ups, planks, hollow holds, and shoulder stability exercises. Balance and Coordination Challenges: Handstands not only test strength but also balance and coordination. We incorporate fun challenges and games to improve these skills. Activities may include handstand contests, handstand relays, partner handstand drills, and balance beam exercises. Flexibility Training: Flexibility is essential for achieving proper handstand alignment and preventing injuries. Stretching exercises targeting the shoulders, wrists, hamstrings, and back are integrated into each class. Children learn safe stretching techniques and develop flexibility gradually over time. Handstand Skills is more than just a gymnastics class; it's a thrilling adventure where children build strength, confidence, and resilience as they conquer the challenge of handstands.
